Note: A move to a new society that is connected by wires, instead of having to be in direct contact all the time? In "The Tipping Point" Malcolm Gladwell mentions that humans can only have deep relationships with about 250 people at a time before they start becoming cold to other people. Perhaps it is possible to get the benefit of quality of life that comes from small town life while keeping work opportunities of bigger cities using the internet for working. But not all work can be outsourced. This could also end up with people becoming less competitive and the U.S. losing out economically, as there will always be foreigners who can do things cheaper.

The Iran Situation
If we do attack Iran, then it won't be like in Iraq. Iran has it's own trained military and is a mountainous country. It would seem from older articles that if action is taken it will be a war via sea and air.
However, the command structures of the Airforce and Navy are much more bureaucratic, and use 2nd generation warfare tactics. Whereas in the current conflict Marines and Special Forces have adapted to the insurgents tactics by decentralizing themselves and their command structure; fighting a 3rd generation war without the strong hierarchy that takes too long to react. Combine this with the fortitude of the Iranian's spirits and we'd have a hard war on our hands, unless the military can adapt. We may not lose the war if it starts, but it will bog us military down even more and stretch it out far too much, leaving us open on the home front. Our homefront infrastructures are not secure enough.
